Panathinaikos have entered the race for Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers as the Greek club prepares for the possible exit of Fotis Ioannidis — www.isagoal.com reports.
According to The Daily Record, Ioannidis has attracted strong interest from Leeds United and Sporting CP, leaving Panathinaikos searching for a reliable replacement.
Dessers, a Nigerian international, has been on the radar of multiple clubs this summer, including AEK Athens and Serie A side Hellas Verona.
AEK even reached an agreement on personal terms with the striker, but talks collapsed when Rangers refused to drop their €5 million asking price.
Now Panathinaikos are ready to move in, with the club viewing Dessers as a proven option to lead their attack ahead of Europa League playoffs against Samsunspor.
Ironically, the 29-year-old faced Panathinaikos earlier in the Champions League qualifiers when Rangers knocked them out of the competition.
Dessers is currently managing an ankle issue but still trained ahead of Rangers’ decisive clash with Club Brugge in midweek.
He also remains in Nigeria’s plans, having been named in the Super Eagles’ provisional squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.
