Chelsea Football Club have officially announced the signing of Malo Gusto from French side Lyon.

The 19 year-old right-back has joined the Blues until the summer of 2030, and will return to Lyon on loan for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

Malo underwent a medical in London prior to joining Chelsea, who struck a £26.3million deal with Lyon.

Chelsea identified Gusto as an alternative to Reece James and met with initial resistance from President Jean-Michel Aulas over their interest.

The teenager has featured in 54 games for his former club in three years and is likely to be part of an eighth signing this transfer window, should they secure central midfield reinforcements such as Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez or Everton’s Amadou Onana.

Alongside Gusto arrives France forward Christopher Nkunku via another £53m deal from RB Leipzig while Cesare Casadei will join Reading on loan after arriving at Stamford Bridge last summer.
