Sunshine Stars head coach, Deji Ayeni has spoken about his optimism for the 2021-22 NPFL season just as his Akure Gunners side kickstarts the season with a date with Wikki Tourists.

Sunshine Stars head into the eagerly anticipated new NPFL season looking to build on the impressive finish to the 2020-21 campaign where they achieved safety against all odds after a run of 17 matches without a win.

The former Ekiti United gaffer while speaking on the prospect of starting the season on a clean slate with the Owena Whales, appeared fully aware of the need to scale new heights with his revamped side, during a chat with Sunshine Stars Media on Saturday.

“This season is going to be a wonderful one! it’s an opportunity for me to start with the team from scratch; I want to be able to implement my philosophy and methodology from the start and already the boys are responding well.”

“As a human we have to be progressive minded. As a person I have my target, as a team we have a target; we are hoping at the end of the season we earn a top four finish to represent this country in the continent. We have the materials and what it takes to get it right.” Ayeni said.

With the renovation work at the Ondo State Sports Complex yet to be completed, Sunshine Stars start the new season, hosting Wikki Tourists at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode, a ground they have succesfully adopted as theirs thrice within the last ten years.
