The Super Eagles of Nigeria have moved up in the FIFA rankings.
They’ve gone from 44th to 43rd, despite a less-than-perfect showing in their recent World Cup qualifiers.
In March 2025, Nigeria faced two key matches.
They defeated Rwanda 2-0 in Kigali, but their hopes of securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup took a hit with a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe at home in Uyo.
That disappointing draw didn’t seem to hurt their global ranking as much as expected.
Even though they only gained one ranking point, from 1482 to 1481, the Super Eagles are still climbing the ladder.
However, they’ve dropped out of the top five African teams.
Now, the top five in Africa are Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire.
Interestingly, Zimbabwe benefitted from their draw with Nigeria, jumping five spots globally to 116th and picking up nine ranking points.
At the top of the global rankings, Argentina still holds the number one spot, with Spain, France, England, and Brazil rounding out the top five.
Countries like the Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, and Germany now occupy positions six through ten.
According to Daily Trust, a total of 245 international matches have been played worldwide since the last FIFA ranking update in December 2024.
