The Netherlands solidified their position in the quarter-finals of the 2024-25 UEFA Nations League after an impressive 4-0 victory against Hungary.

This crucial match, held in Group 3 of League A, was essential for Ronald Koeman’s side, who entered the match tied on points with Hungary in third place.

With this decisive win, the Netherlands now leads their rivals by three points, ensuring they cannot be caught in the final matchday due to their superior head-to-head record.

Unfortunately, the match was momentarily interrupted in the seventh minute due to a medical emergency involving Hungary’s assistant coach, Adam Szalai.

The Hungarian Football Federation later confirmed that Szalai’s condition was stable and that he was transported to a hospital in Amsterdam for further examination.

Once the match resumed, it became clear that the Netherlands was determined to seize control.

The opening goal came shortly after the delay when Wout Weghorst successfully converted a penalty awarded after VAR reviewed a handball by Tamas Nikitscher.

As the game progressed, Netherlands continued to press for goals.

It wasn’t long before Cody Gakpo added a second from the penalty spot, sneaking one in at the end of the first half.

The second half saw Denzel Dumfries increase the tally to 3-0 with a well-placed volley before Teun Koopmeiners capped off the scoring with the fourth goal late in the match.
