Moffi’s Injury History Sinks Nice Deal for Ghana Star

OGC Nice back out of a move for Ghana’s Ransford Königsdörffer after medical fears echo the costly knee injury saga they faced with Nigeria’s Terem Moffi

OGC Nice have walked away from a deal for Ghana’s Ransford Königsdörffer after spotting a knee concern during medical checks — a decision shaped by past regret with Nigerian striker Terem Moffi — www.isagoal.com reports.

Sport revealed that Nice’s experience with Moffi played a major role in their hesitation. When Moffi arrived from Lorient in 2023, club doctors reportedly flagged a knee issue, but the transfer still went ahead. Months later, that gamble backfired. In August 2024, Moffi tore his cruciate ligament and missed half the season, scoring just once after returning.

Although Moffi recently netted in a friendly against Sheffield United, Nice appear unwilling to risk a repeat.

Königsdörffer had been on the verge of joining from Hamburger SV until medical scans raised concern over his left knee. Despite only missing two games in three years, the club pulled the plug at the last moment.

“His availability has never been in doubt,” said HSV’s Stefan Kuntz, expressing surprise at the deal collapsing.

Sporting director Claus Costa added, “We’re happy to keep him. He was crucial to our promotion push.”

Nice, who finished fourth in Ligue 1 last season, now prepare for a Champions League qualifier against Benfica without their targeted reinforcement.
