Man Utd can’t depend Ronaldo, Rashford, Martial for consistent goals – Owen

Michael Owen has urged his old club, Manchester United to sign the ‘next Wayne Rooney’ as the Red Devils cannot depend on forwards, Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial for consistent goals.

Man United are enjoying an impressive run under new manager Erik ten Hag.

They have won six of their last eight matches across all competitions to climb to the fifth position in the Premier League.

“Cristiano Ronaldo obviously is not getting any younger and isn’t going to be there for another four, five years,” the former Manchester United striker told AceOdds. “You never know, it might be his last season.

“So from that point of view, you do wonder where goals will come from. Marcus Rashford has always been a goalscorer but has never been absolutely prolific.

“Martial has had lots of chances over time. He has never been really prolific and scored into the twenties, let’s say.

“So I think in terms of scoring goals, that is where Manchester United will have to address it at some point.

“Defensive-wise, they have invested over the years. I think the full-backs are still a little bit of a question mark.

“They spent a lot of money on the likes of Wan-Bissaka and Shaw, and they probably would not be in the team at the moment.

“But, I think when you are Manchester United, you are probably looking at the next Wayne Rooney, the next 18, 19, 20-year-old old.

“If you are going to buy somebody, they need to nail that position down for the next decade.

“But there is nobody really out there at the moment that they have done that with.”
