Philip Dooley, a 51-year-old lifelong Liverpool fan, tragically died after being struck by a vehicle in Italy.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning as Philip attempted to cross the A4 highway near Orio al Serio airport in Bergamo, west of Milan.
He had traveled to Milan to watch Liverpool’s Champions League match against AC Milan at San Siro.
According to witnesses, Philip was in the company of a father and son as they tried to navigate their way to a nearby hotel.
Unfortunately, it was during this attempt that he was fatally hit by an SUV shortly after 1 AM.
Italian police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, while Liverpool’s supporters and staff grieve the loss of one of their own.
In an official statement, Liverpool FC expressed their condolences, saying, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of our supporter Philip Dooley, following a road traffic accident.”
“The thoughts and prayers of everyone connected to the club are with Philip’s family, friends and fellow supporters at this extremely difficult time. Rest in peace, Philip.”
The club confirmed that they are working closely with both local police and the consulate to assist fans affected by this devastating news.
