France midfielder Adrien Rabiot has joined Marseille after completing his medical, the club announced on Tuesday.

Rabiot is expected to elevate the French league, which lost its biggest star this summer when Kylian Mbappé moved from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid.

The details of Rabiot’s contract were not disclosed.

The 29-year-old was a free agent after declining to renew his contract with Juventus, where he spent five seasons, winning one Serie A title, two Italian Cups, and one Italian Super Cup.

Rabiot, who has made 48 appearances for France and played in Euro 2024, arrived in Marseille to a warm reception from fans.

His move is likely to anger Marseille’s fierce rival PSG.

Born in Paris, Rabiot joined PSG’s academy at 15 and made 227 appearances for the club, winning six French league titles.

However, he left PSG on bad terms in 2019 to join Juventus.

Marseille, under new coach Roberto de Zerbi, has started the season strong.

Unbeaten in their first four games, they sit just two points behind PSG in the league.

The club has also made significant summer signings, including Mason Greenwood, Neal Maupay, and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.

Rabiot’s addition will undoubtedly add fuel to the rivalry with PSG, especially as the two teams are set to clash in the highly anticipated match known as ‘Le Classique’ on October 27.
