Liverpool players joined Diogo Jota’s grieving family in Portugal on Saturday for the funeral of the late forward and his brother Andre Silva, IsaGoal can report, after both men tragically died in a car crash in Spain.

As reported by Sky Sports News, the funeral took place at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar church, near Porto, where mourners gathered in large numbers.

Jota, a father of three, had married his long-time partner Rute Cardoso just 11 days earlier.

The Lamborghini carrying both brothers reportedly burst into flames after a suspected tyre blowout.

The funeral was attended by several Liverpool teammates including Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Curtis Jones, Joe Gomez, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo, along with new manager Arne Slot.

National team stars like Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva, and Joao Felix also came to pay their respects.

“They are really sad days, but today we’ve shown we are a close family,” said Portugal boss Roberto Martinez. “Their spirit will be with us forever.”

Service sheets showed Jota in his Liverpool shirt, smiling and making a heart sign, while players brought floral wreaths shaped like football shirts.

The club postponed all pre-season training and lowered flags at Anfield.

Flowers and tributes now cover the stadium entrance.

The fatal crash occurred on the A-52 near Zamora.

Police are investigating tyre failure and possible speeding.

No other vehicles were involved.
