Napoli are on the verge of finalizing the signing of Manchester City icon Kevin De Bruyne, with the Belgian midfielder expected to join the Serie A side on a free transfer this summer.
According to Alfredo Pedulla, De Bruyne has chosen Napoli as his next destination after confirming in April that he would leave Manchester City at the end of the season. The midfielder reportedly broke off all other negotiations last week.
De Bruyne, who spent nearly a decade at the Etihad, penned a heartfelt farewell to supporters last month: “These will be my final months as a Manchester City player… you deserve to hear it from me first,” he wrote.
The 33-year-old’s next step appeared uncertain, with Liverpool briefly linked following Mohamed Salah’s light-hearted comment that there was “space for him” at Anfield. However, interest from other clubs did not develop into concrete offers.
Napoli, recently crowned Italian champions, are believed to have reached an advanced stage in talks with the playmaker. The deal is expected to see De Bruyne sign a two-year contract, with the option of a third, worth an estimated €7–8 million per year plus performance-related bonuses.
Reports from Italy also mention that De Bruyne’s wife was recently seen in Naples, fueling early speculation that a move was on the cards. Sources close to the player now suggest all that remains is the final paperwork.
De Bruyne won five Premier League titles and a Champions League during his time in Manchester. A switch to Naples represents the beginning of a new chapter for one of the Premier League’s most decorated midfielders.
