Liverpool’s plans to sign Romeo Lavia have hit a setback as Chelsea is closing in on a deal for the Southampton midfielder.

Liverpool had initially targeted Lavia after missing out on Moises Caicedo, who opted to join Chelsea instead.

However, if Liverpool fails to secure Lavia’s signature, they may turn their attention to Fluminese midfielder Andre.

Meanwhile, Chelsea has agreed to a British record transfer fee of £115m for Brighton midfielder Caicedo, with an additional £15m in add-ons and a sell-on clause.

Despite Liverpool’s frustrations in the transfer market, Chelsea’s big spending has allowed them to secure their top targets.
