Italy national team head coach Luciano Spalletti explained why Federico Chiesa was not included in his latest squad for the upcoming Nations League matches against France and Israel.
Chiesa experienced a tough period this summer as he found himself out of Thiago Motta’s plans for the 2024-25 season.
Due to this, Chiesa spent the majority of the summer training on his own at Continassa.
However, in a last-minute move, he secured a transfer to Liverpool for a fee of €15 million, including add-ons.
Given his disrupted pre-season, Chiesa is currently on a specialized training program at Liverpool to regain full match fitness.
Spalletti revealed that he had a conversation with Chiesa, where they agreed it was best for the player to remain with his new club to complete his preparation.
“Chiesa and I spoke and made a fair assessment. I would have brought him as an extra player, not participating in the games.
He told me that he had spoken to his new club and that he needs to do specific preparation work with them,” Spalletti stated during a press conference at Coverciano.
