The UEFA Champions League is the most prestigious club football competition in the world. Every year, the best clubs from across Europe compete for the coveted trophy.

Winning the Champions League once is a remarkable achievement but winning it multiple times is a testament to a player’s talent, skill, and consistency.

Who Was the First Player to Win 6 Champions League Titles?

Since the creation of the European Cup in 1955, Francisco Gento is the only player to have won the trophy six times.

Gento was first part of the magnificent Real Madrid team that won five consecutive European Cups from 1956 to 1960.

He then captained the Real Madrid yeyé in 1966, leading them to their sixth triumph.

Gento was not only a key member of the team but also played a crucial role in the finals. He was in the starting line-up for all six European Cup finals that Real Madrid reached during his career, scoring in two of them.

In the second final, he scored the second goal in the 2-0 win against Fiorentina. The final was played at the Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid’s home stadium. Gento proved even more instrumental in the third final, when his extra-time goal settled a tough encounter against Milan.

Gento’s record of playing in eight European Cup finals remains unmatched to this day. He played in two more finals in his career, in 1962 against Benfica and in 1964 against Inter Milan.

In total, he played 88 European Cup matches, scoring 31 goals. His remarkable achievements in the competition earned him a place in football history.

Francisco Gento López, an instrumental figure in the Real Madrid club legend, passed away at the age of 88.

He played for the club from 1953 to 1971, winning an unprecedented number of trophies during his eighteen-year career.

Gento’s six European Cups make him a truly unique player in the history of football. He also won 12 La Liga titles, 1 Intercontinental Cup, 2 Latin Cups, 2 Spanish Cups, and 1 Mini World Cup.

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to Real Madrid, Gento was named honorary president of the club in 2016.

His legacy as one of the greatest players in the history of the game will forever be remembered.
