Former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has agreed to become the new manager of the US men’s soccer team, succeeding Gregg Berhalter.
Negotiations involving Pochettino’s representatives and the US Soccer’s technical director, Matt Crocker, who previously collaborated with Pochettino at Southampton, have been ongoing for several weeks.
The decision follows a disappointing Copa América performance, where the US became the first host country to fail to advance past the group stages.
Pochettino’s last role was with Chelsea, where he led the team to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League last season.
His name was also on the Football Association’s shortlist to replace England’s manager, Gareth Southgate.
However, Lee Carsley was appointed as England’s interim manager as the search for a permanent successor continues.
This job marks Pochettino’s first international coaching position, adding to his managerial resume, which already includes stints at Espanyol, Southampton, Chelsea, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain.
The US national team aims to finalize Pochettino’s appointment before their match against Canada on September 7th.
