Thibaut Courtois – (Belgium)
Domenico Tedesco, the manager of Belgium received an heart-broken news when Thibaut Courtois tore the Anterior Cruciate Ligament in his left knee during the pre-season, and then damaging the internal meniscus in his right leg on March 19.
However, the Belgian shot-stopper returned to action for Real Madrid against Cadiz last weekend, making his first appearance of the season in the league which is a pointer that he could face his way to the squad before the start of the tournament.
Jurrien Timber – (Netherlands)
Timber started his journey at Arsenal on a wonderful note after impressing in both pre-season and the Community Shield, but unfortunately for him he was dealt a huge blow on his Premier League debut for Arsenal.
The Dutch international suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament in Arsenal’s 2-1 triumph over Nottingham Forest, in a sad injury incident that unfortunately ruled him out of the European Championship slated for Germany.
David Alaba – (Austria)
Just when the Austrian national team and Real Madrid thought they would get the best of services from Alaba, the versatile defender unfortunately tore his Anterior Cruciate Ligament in December.
While the return of Militao and Courtois is a great new for the Real Madrid camp, Alaba never had the luxury of returning to full-fitness before the end of the campaign and as such he won’t be part of the party at this year UEFA European Championship in Germany.
Domenico Berardi – (Italy)
No Berardi, no party for Sassuolo, and that’s how good he could be for the “Neroverdi” when he is on the pitch for them, but unfortunately for them his injury has caused nothing but a huge set back for the Italian outfit.
Berardi first recovered from a meniscus injury, but surprisingly suffered a complete tear of his Achilles Tendon in his right leg in March, and as such he is not expected in time to return action until next year with the European Championship upon us.
Sven Botman – (Netherlands)
Newcastle United’s centre-back Sven Botman came to the limelight in an era when the Dutch national can no longer boast of excellent centre-backs, however, they are also not short of options at the back.
Nonetheless, Botman’s unavailability for the European Championship slated for Germany this year, is no doubt a major blow for coach Ronald Koeman having suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury while playing for the Magpies against Manchester City.
Luke Shaw – (England)
If there’s a national team who is equally blessed with an efficient and capable left-backs, it is the Three Lions even with the absent of their number one left-back Luke Shaw.
The Manchester United left-back was forced off in a match due to injury against Luton Town, with a reoccurring muscular problem that first sidelined him for three months earlier this season for the Red Devils.
Gavi – (Spain)
Gavi, very good but quite erratic with his tackles as a player which is something that often land him in trouble, however, injury is something that top athletes can’t do without as such his absence through injury for Barcelona has been a major blow for the team.
The young midfielder got injured during the Euro 2024 qualifier against Georgia last November, and the Barcelona’s hierarchy reportedly blamed the Spain coach Luis de la Fuente for the injury Gavi suffered.
Reece James – (England)
When fully-fit James is without mincing word one of the finest full-backs in Europe, having impressed time and time again for Chelsea at the highest level of the game.
With the UEFA European Championship slated for Germany knocking on the door, the race against time for James to be part of the squad leaving for Berlin is very slim having only featured in just nine games in all competitions for Chelsea this season.
Lucas Hernandez – (France)
Sadly for Lucas Hernandez his 2022 World Cup campaign lasted just 13 minutes, with the defender rupturing his right Anterior Cruciate Ligament in France’s opening game against Australia.
So with the European Championship set to commence soon, it’s so unfortunate that the versatile defender would also not be participating in this year edition after suffering the same injury to his left knee in Paris St-Germain’s Champions League semi-final first leg loss at Borussia Dortmund.
Lewis Ferguson – (Scotland)
Injury sometimes can be so cruel, particularly when a player is in the best form of his life at the highest level of the game, as such, same is the story of Bologna’s midfielder Lewis Ferguson who has been very pivotal for the Serie A outfit this season.
