Christian Eriksen has begun a comeback training with his former clubside, Ajax, as he seeks a new club, the Amsterdam clubside revealed on Tuesday.
It would be recalled that the former Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur playmaker went into cardiac arrest at last year’s UEFA EUROS Championship during Denmark’s group opener against Finland.
Following his short break from football, Eriksen was fitted with a pacemaker and subsequently terminated his contract by mutual consent with the Italian clubside last December given that the Italian rule bars players with pacemakers from playing.
Ajax in a statement on Tuesday revealed that the 29-year old is back at the club and has begun training in order to keep his fitness level till he finds a new club.
“Former Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen is training with Jong Ajax this week. The Danish international is working to keep his fitness levels until he finds a new club,” Ajax said in a statement.
Eriksen joined the Dutch sure as a teenager in 2008 and made his Eredivisie debut in 2010 before he later joined Spurs in 2013.
“I am very happy to be here. At Ajax I know the people, it feels like coming home because I was here for so long. All facilities are available here and with long Ajax I can train at a high level in a group,” Eriksen was quoted as saying in the statement.
“I want to be at my best again as soon as possible so that when I find a new club, I can perform well there. as quickly as possible.”
