EPL: Emenalo Favorite To Land Director Of Football Role At Tyneside

Former Chelsea technical director, Michael Emenalo has been shortlisted as the leading candidate for a director of football role at Tyneside, Newcastle United.

The former Nigeria international his a well renowned and experienced man who his well revered at Chelsea, having garnered experience while at Stamford Bridge in the same role building a stellar reputation and harnessing the club’s ability to nurture and create youth academy youngsters to great success from 2011-17. 

While at Chelsea as a technical director, he was responsible for the signature of fantastic players like Romelu Lukaku and current City midfield meastro Kevin De Bruyne. 

Emenalo was also heavily involved in the same role at Monaco, arriving at the club after their title triumph in 2017. His reign with the Ligue 1 side lasted just two years in a period that saw the club shipped out key players including World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe.

Following Newcastle United takeover, the new Saudi backed ownership are in hunt for a director of football who could help transform and restructure the club from the business standpoint. 

According to report, it is Emenalo who now looks favorite to take up the post, however former Arsenal legend Marc Overmars has also been heavily linked with the post and former Liverpool, Rangers director of football Frank McParland. 

With the managerial hunt done and dusted with the appointment of Eddie Howe until 2024, the Tyneside club can now focus their attention on appointing a director of football which would come in handy in helping them transforming the club.
