Austin Eguavoen believes Nigeria can still qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, IsaGoal can report.
In a recent chat with ACL Sports, the former Super Eagles coach said the team has what it takes to make it despite being fourth in their qualifying group.
“It’s easier said than done, but we have the potential and the personnel,” Eguavoen stated with conviction.
He emphasized unity and determination, adding, “With the boys we have now and every Nigerian coming together, it is doable. I’m 100% sure because the players want to be at the World Cup.”
The experienced tactician is focused on the road ahead, saying, “I’m not looking back at the last game, I’m looking forward to the next one. That’s the mindset: one game at a time, treat every game like a final.”
Though Eric Chelle is now in charge, Eguavoen applauded his unbeaten run and calm leadership.
“Very good performance. I hope the record continues. There shouldn’t be any distractions, let him be, let him do what he feels is right, and give him control,” he said.
He insisted that collective effort is key to success: “This is not a one-man show. Collectively, we can achieve success. There hasn’t been interference so far, and I believe there won’t be.”
Eguavoen also voiced strong support for the Super Falcons ahead of AFCON 2024 in Morocco.
“We’re the best in Africa, one of the best in the world, without mincing words,” he affirmed confidently.
