On Friday, football legend David Beckham shed a tear as he attended the funeral of his former England boss, Sven-Goran Eriksson.

The service was held in Eriksson’s home town of Torsby, drawing family and friends together to bid farewell to the esteemed Swedish manager who passed away last month at the age of 76 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Beckham flew into Sweden on a private jet the day prior, joining a host of mourners, including Sven’s ex-partner Nancy Dell’Olio and former England manager Roy Hodgson.

The funeral service took place at Fryksände Church, with a large screen set up outside for attendees.

Many were moved by the heartfelt sermon delivered by priest Ingela Alvskog, a close friend of Sven’s.

Alvskog described Eriksson as a kind, loving father with a strong sense of discipline and a zest for life, even during his illness.

She recalled his love for good food, travel, and routine, and mentioned his unexpected proficiency in salsa dancing.

After the church service, attendees gathered for a procession to the Hembygdsgarden Kollsberg Museum, where speakers shared cherished memories of Eriksson.

Close friend Bengt Berg said, “He was a great person and a good friend of mine,” reminiscing about their shared experiences.

Berg emphasized Sven’s ability to see the bright side of life, describing him as both ordinary and unique, which is why he was so deeply loved.

With a view of Lake Fryken, he poignantly expressed, “You have now returned to your home shores once and for all. Thank you, Sven.”
