Chelsea are champions of the World

After a one hundred and twenty minutes of gruelling club world cup final, Chelsea emerged winners following a 117th-minute Havertz’s penalty was put at the back of the net.

The ending was a different affair entirely to what the start of the tie looked like in the nervy encounter between the European champions and Palmeiras.

After the first half had ended goalless, Chelsea came on in the second half looking refreshed and their improved performance got paid off when Romelu Lukaku slammed a header passed Palmeiras goalkeeper, Weverton in the fifty-fourth minute.

However, Chelsea’s lead lasted for ten minutes only as Palmeiras were awarded a penalty after a VAR check for handball against Thiago Silva, and Veiga scored calmly from the spot.

The two sides kept on nullifying each other as the game drifted to extra time.

All was set to be heading to penalty shootout untill Palmeiras’ Luan was penalised for handball and Havertz strolled forward to send Weverton the wrong way.

A miserable night for Luan was complete when he was sent off for a last-man foul on Havertz in injury time. He and Palmeiras gave everything; in the end, it was not enough to stage a comeback into the game as Thomas Tuchel’s side ran off winners.
