Cesc Fabregas, Premier League legend and former Arsenal star, has admitted he regrets leaving the North London club for Spanish powerhouse FC Barcelona.
The midfielder spent eight years with the Gunners where he established himself as a key figure in Arsene Wenger’s reign.
After joining Barcelona in 2011, the 35-year-old Spaniard noted how his timing when returning to Spain wasn’t ideal since his three-year spell at Camp Nou didn’t earn him a regular spot in midfield due to Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta’s presence.
He further revealed that calls and messages from then manager Pep Guardiola affected his decision, but that looking back he should’ve remained with Arsenal a little longer “until Xavi shut down a bit.”
Despite this regret, Fabregas still expressed his joy after seeing Arsenal stage an incredible comeback against Bournemouth on Saturday where Reiss Nelson was credited as playing a crucial role.
