Following Chelsea’s confirmation that Reece James would miss the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar due to injury, England manager, Gareth Southgate is set to name Arsenal’s Ben White in his squad as a replacement.

James had on Wednesday confirmed that he is ‘devastated’ to miss out on England’s World Cup squad.

England boss, Southgate has opted to omit James from his 26-man squad.

James, who was aiming for the Three Lions’ first-choice right-back, sustained a knee injury in mid-October.

The 22-year-old said that immediately after he picked that injury, he knew it would be hard to recover and be part of the England squad.

However, according to the Daily Telegraph, with James confirming he will miss out, White could be a surprise inclusion to Southgate’s World Cup squad.

White offers another option at both right-back and centre-half, having impressed under Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta this season.

The report added that Manchester United forward, Marcus Rashford is set to be recalled to the England squad for the World Cup, with Leicester City’s James Maddison likely to miss out.
