Balogun Out Of Rangers Vs Lyon Europa League Clash

Leon Balogun will not travel to Lyon for Rangers’ final Europa League group stage fixture on Thursday night.

The defender has yet to feature for new boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst after limping out of the Premier Sports Cup defeat to Hibernian last month.

Balogun will not be part of the Light Blues squad for the Lyon clash as Van Bronckhorst aims to make it five wins from five games since replacing Steven Gerrard at Ibrox.

And the Dutchman admits he is likely to make changes to his side as he keeps one eye on the crucial Premiership showdown with Hearts this weekend.

“Regarding the team news, I think Leon Balogun cannot travel this afternoon,” Van Bronckhorst told a news conference on Wednesday.

“We still have a training left and so far we have everyone on board.

“We just have to wait until after the training before I can announce my squad.

“Regarding the game, we are going to watch closely the physical state of my players and it is also a game where I can change some positions to give the players some minutes who need that.

“I am more than comfortable to do so and to get a good game tomorrow evening.”
