Arsenal has confirmed that it has stripped Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of the club’s captaincy following a ‘breach of discipline’.

Aubameyang was reported to have returned lager than agreed from a personal trip to France last week, which subsequently necessitated his absence in training due to the need to pass COVID-19 protocols.

The Gabon star was out of missing out of action in The Gunners’ 3-nil win against Southampton at the Emirates over the weekend and will also not travel with the team to the London Stadium for the West Ham clash on Wednesday.

Arsenal, in a statement released on Tuesday, said it expect all players of the club to work the rules and standards that has been set.

“Following his latest disciplinary breach last week, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will no longer be our club captain, and will not be considered for selection for Wednesday’s match against West Ham United, Arsenal said in a statement.

“We expect all our players, particularly our captain, to work to the rules and standards we have all set and agreed.”
