In the aftermath of Thiago Alcântara’s latest injury, will Jürgen Klopp go back on his word and sign a midfielder before the end of the transfer window?
With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also out with a hamstring issue of his own and Curtis Jones also unavailable, suddenly Liverpool are looking a few bodies short in the middle of the park.
Klopp has been adamant that he won’t dip back into the transfer market to sign a midfielder.

“A transfer must make sense now and in the long-term,” he said after the Fulham game (via the ECHO). “We have eight midfielders. We still have enough midfielders. It’s not that we lack midfielders, it’s just that some of them are injured. This isn’t a good situation, I don’t like it at all. We have to see how we react on that, but for sure not panic.”

But with the games set to come thick and fast once September rolls around, and if Liverpool were to get another injury in midfield, then things would look very worrying.
A solution could be found in Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz, who seems set to leave the club this summer, with his contract running into its final year.

According to French outlet L’Equipe, a deal is close between Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain for around £22m. Liverpool may need to interject now and make a late move for Ruiz.
