The Nigeria Football Federation has rejected Taribo West’s claim that Peter Rufai’s family was abandoned after the goalkeeper’s death – www.isagoal.com reports.
Leadership quoted the federation as saying it not only stood by Rufai’s family but also supported Christian Chukwu’s relatives during their trying times.
The former Super Eagles defender had blasted both the NFF and Lagos State Government, accusing them of neglect.
Taribo even vowed he would not let his son represent Nigeria because of how he believed Rufai’s family was treated.
But the NFF, in a strongly worded statement, detailed the help it provided during the burials of the two national icons.
“The Nigeria Football Federation stood in solidarity with two of our legends as they were laid to rest,” the statement read.
The body explained that Chukwu’s family received financial assistance, and senior officials were present at the burial rites in their honor.
It also clarified that Rufai’s funeral mass in Lagos was attended by its delegation, which offered monetary support to his relatives.
According to the NFF, honoring former players remains a duty it will continue to uphold.
The statement concluded by assuring fans that the legacy of the legends would always be respected.
