Barcelona has announced that it will continue to play its home matches at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys until early next year.
This decision comes amid renovations at the Spotify Camp Nou, the club’s iconic stadium, which is undergoing a significant £1.25 billion makeover.
The renovations aim to increase the stadium’s capacity to accommodate 105,000 fans once completed.
The delay in returning to the Camp Nou can largely be attributed to a UEFA rule that prevents teams from moving stadiums during the initial phase of the Champions League.
Barcelona aimed to be back in their home ground by November 29 to celebrate the club’s 125th anniversary, but they now face a postponed timeline.
As a result, matches against Valencia and Alavés will be held at the smaller Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, which has a capacity of 54,367.
While the exact date for Barcelona’s return to the Camp Nou remains unconfirmed, it could potentially be their home match against Rayo Vallecano, scheduled for February 16.
Alternatively, it could coincide with a Champions League play-off match if Barcelona finishes between ninth and 24th in their group.
For now, the club has adjusted ticket prices for the remaining games at the Olympic Stadium, and season tickets will include the postponed matches at the Camp Nou once the stadium reopens.
