Romelu Lukaku Joins Napoli on a Permanent Deal

Napoli have confirmed the permanent signing of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea for a reported £37 million fee.

The Belgian striker was informed earlier this summer that he had no future at Stamford Bridge.

He had spent the previous season on loan at Roma and was eager to return to Italy.

Napoli emerged as his primary suitors, and a deal was eventually reached.

Lukaku will be playing for his third Italian club after two successful stints with Inter Milan and a temporary spell at Roma.

Despite being one of the most prolific strikers in international football, with 85 goals in 119 appearances for Belgium, Lukaku has struggled for consistency at the club level.

Lukaku’s career began at Anderlecht before Chelsea signed him in 2011.

He made a name for himself during loan spells with West Bromwich Albion and Everton, eventually joining Everton permanently.

His standout season in 2016/17, where he scored 25 Premier League goals, led to a £75 million move to Manchester United.

However, he struggled at Old Trafford, scoring 42 goals in 96 appearances before revitalizing his career at Inter Milan.

At Inter, Lukaku formed a lethal partnership with Lautaro Martinez, helping the club win the 2020/21 Serie A title, the Coppa Italia, and the Supercoppa Italiana.

His success in Italy prompted Chelsea to bring him back for a club-record £97.5 million.

Although he started well, scoring on his second debut against Arsenal, a fallout with then-manager Thomas Tuchel led to his exclusion from the squad and subsequent loan spells in Italy.

Now, Lukaku looks to reignite his career with Napoli.
