Michael Emenalo Rejects Director Of Football Role At Newcastle

Former Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo has rejected Newcastle’s offer to become their new director of football.

The Nigerian travelled to Saudi Arabia for talks and was understood to be the club’s No 1 choice for the role, with the club’s director Jamie Reuben and Saudi owners all pleased to appoint him.

However, according to report, the club’s inability to match his ambitious plans for the Magpies means he has to declined the deal to be club’s director of football.

But after thorough negotiations with director Amanda Staveley, in which he outlined his short and long term ideas to improve the club, Emenalo reportedly feels the club’s current vision does not suit him.

Emenalo’s rejection of Newcastle don’t necessarily means their offer is not good enough or because of their relegation battle, however the club could approach him again in the future.

While Emenalo has rejected Newcastle’s offer, they will now have to look elsewhere to fill their director of football position, and former Nottingham Forest director of football Frank McParland could be appointed on interim basis.

With the January transfer window fast approaching Newcastle hierarchy have to make a swift decision in appointing a director of football going forward into the season.
