The Super Eagles have dropped five places from 35th to 40th position in the lastest FIFA rankings.

Jose Peseiro’s side are also now ranked sixth in Africa.

The Super Eagles are behind 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finalists Morocco, African champions, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt.

The Super Eagles downward trend in ranking is connected to team’s disappointing defeat to Guinea-Bisssu in in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture last month.

The three-time African champions lost 1-0 to the Djurtus in Abuja before avenging the defeat in Bissau.

The West Africans are expected to return to action against Sierra Leone in June.
