Zubimendi Agrees Arsenal Move After Snubbing Liverpool

Here Is The Easy Money-Making Trick Everyone Is Talking About! Learn More Here!

Martin Zubimendi is edging closer to a move to Arsenal after reaching a verbal agreement with the north London club, nearly a year after rejecting an offer from Liverpool.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Real Sociedad midfielder turned down a £51 million switch to Anfield last August, opting instead to remain at his boyhood club in Spain. Despite interest from Arne Slot, who had just taken over as Liverpool’s head coach, Zubimendi was unwilling to activate his release clause at the time.

“It was an uncomfortable time for me, but I weighed the pros and cons and concluded that the best option was to stay,” Zubimendi said when asked about his decision last summer.

Now, Arsenal appear ready to trigger the same release clause, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the Spanish international has agreed terms on a long-term deal. The Gunners are being cautious in finalizing the move, as Ben Jacobs notes, due to Zubimendi previously backing out of a Premier League transfer.

If completed, this will mark Arsenal’s second consecutive season signing a player from Real Sociedad, having brought in Mikel Merino last year. Still, the club has been unable to match Liverpool’s pace this season, with the Merseyside giants sealing their 20th league title with four games remaining.

Arsenal and Liverpool are set to face off at Anfield this Sunday, giving Zubimendi a taste of the Premier League environment he’s preparing to enter.
