Wilfred Ndidi shared his thoughts on Nigeria’s recent face-off with Ghana at the Unity Cup, expressing that winning that particular match meant more than just advancing in the tournament – www.isagoal.com reports.
In a chat on The Culture League podcast, the Leicester City midfielder described the May 28 meeting with Ghana as a matter of pride rather than competition, according to content from The Culture League. Ndidi emphasized that overcoming Ghana in the Unity Cup was emotionally significant, stating, “The Ghana game was more of settling our ego, we have to win that one. It doesn’t matter if we lose the final.”
Nigeria went on to claim the Unity Cup title after facing both Ghana and Jamaica, marking their third win in the Afro-Caribbean tournament. Ndidi played full minutes in each match, contributing solidly across the tournament.
While fans from Jamaica and Ghana filled the stands with energy, Ndidi observed that Nigerians were a bit more reserved. “The turnup was good. For Ghanaians, they came out, Jamaicans came out,” he noted, adding that Nigerian supporters might show up stronger in future editions.
Ndidi is now back in action with Leicester City, featuring in their pre-season 2-1 win over FC Karpaty Lviv.
