Ashleigh Plumptre has opened up about the less-than-ideal circumstances the Super Falcons faced during the 2024 WAFCON tournament in Morocco – www.isagoal.com reports.
She revealed that players were placed in cramped hotels with no proper recovery setups, which made rest and rehabilitation after games nearly impossible.
According to report, the defender detailed how the team had no access to a gym or pool for most of the competition, making recovery efforts difficult.
“Some of us were already dealing with injuries, and not having the right facilities didn’t help,” she said in an interview with Lagos Talks FM.
The players were eventually taken to a public gym only later in the tournament, but Plumptre stressed that this was far too late to be useful.
The 27-year-old questioned the planning behind the hotel arrangements, saying it affected not just her, but several teammates’ performance levels.
She pointed out that unlike nations like England, which invest in their women’s teams, Nigeria’s squad lacked the structural support to thrive.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade earned praise from Plumptre for addressing the problems quickly and urging teammates to stay alert in the situation.
“She told us not to unpack right away — that’s how unfit the hotel was,” Plumptre noted, adding that players initially had to share extremely tight rooms.
Even though her performance stood out, Plumptre was left off the Team of the Tournament, a decision that surprised many fans and pundits.
