Viktor Gyokeres looks set for a big move this summer, with Arsenal emerging as the frontrunner to sign the Sporting Lisbon striker.

The Swedish forward enjoyed a sensational season, scoring an incredible 54 goals in just 52 matches, helping Sporting secure both the Primeira Liga and the Taca de Portugal titles.

According to The Mirror, Gyokeres is keen on a move to Arsenal, but talks may hit a snag due to tensions between his camp and Sporting’s management.

Sporting president Frederico Varandas has pushed back against claims that the club agreed to a £60 million release clause. “At the beginning of the season, we made two things clear: we wouldn’t ask for €100 million, and Viktor’s price would depend on his performances,” Varandas said.

Despite growing interest across Europe, Sporting insists they have yet to receive any official offers for the 26-year-old striker.

Real Madrid had considered Gyokeres as an option, but according to The Athletic, they ultimately backed away due to Sporting’s high valuation. The Spanish giants are currently prioritizing a backup striker who can offer a strong aerial presence to support Kylian Mbappe.

Gyokeres’s goal-scoring exploits have caught the attention of top European clubs, but Arsenal remains his preferred destination.

However, the negotiations have grown tense. Reports suggest the striker’s representatives are clashing with Sporting over the terms of the potential transfer, with the club rejecting any form of pressure.

“Threats, blackmail, and insults won’t work with me,” Varandas firmly stated. “I can guarantee one thing: Viktor Gyokeres will not leave here for €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons.”
