Uruguayan footballer Juan Izquierdo tragically passed away at 27, just days after collapsing during a Copa Libertadores match against São Paulo.
Izquierdo replaced Sebastián Coates at halftime and fell unconscious in the 84th minute without any physical contact.
He was rushed to Hospital Albert Einstein, where doctors treated him for cardiorespiratory arrest linked to cardiac arrhythmia.
Despite their efforts, Izquierdo passed away after days of being on a ventilator and under neurological critical care.
In response to the tragedy, Club Nacional de Football, where Izquierdo played, expressed their deep sorrow in a heartfelt statement, mourning the loss of a beloved player and offering condolences to his family, friends, and teammates.

Izquierdo began his professional career in 2018 with Cerro before joining Nacional in 2022.
He later moved to Liverpool F.C. in Uruguay, where he played a crucial role in their first league title in over a century.
