Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi has received the PFA Community Champion Award at Nottingham Forest for the 2024/25 season.
Awoniyi earned the recognition for his efforts off the pitch despite a difficult season marred by injuries and limited playing time.
The 27-year-old managed only one goal in 26 appearances during the campaign. He played behind Chris Wood for most of the season and faced several injury setbacks.
Still, Awoniyi remained a positive influence in the Nottingham community. In March, he hosted a special community meal that served as Iftar for Muslims during Ramadan and also as a meal break for Christians observing Lent.
He regularly showed appreciation to Forest fans, engaging with them after matches and through his social media platforms.
Nottingham Forest confirmed the award in a statement posted on X:
“Taiwo Awoniyi has been named our PFA Community Champion for the 2024/25 season in recognition of his outstanding dedication to supporting local communities throughout the year.”
Awoniyi Recovering from Serious Injury
Earlier this month, reports emerged that Awoniyi had undergone surgery after suffering a ruptured intestine during Forest’s 2-2 draw against Leicester City.
He was briefly hospitalized but is now recovering well. The striker was seen at the City Ground during Nottingham Forest’s final Premier League match of the season against Chelsea.
Awoniyi is expected to return for pre-season training, provided he stays with the club beyond the summer transfer window.
