Slot Breaks Silence on Osimhen, Ekitike, Isak Liverpool Decisions

Arne Slot addresses Liverpool’s links to Victor Osimhen and explains why the Nigerian striker was never a priority despite the endless speculation

Liverpool coach Arne Slot has finally spoken about the endless talk linking Victor Osimhen to Anfield, stressing the striker was never a real target despite weeks of chatter — www.isagoal.com reports.

According to reports, the Reds were never preparing an approach for the Nigerian forward even when the summer gossip paired him with clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal.

Osimhen left Napoli after rejecting Saudi offers and completed a historic move to Galatasaray following his successful loan spell in Turkey.

Slot explained that Liverpool’s transfer strategy shifted after tragedy struck in July when Diogo Jota passed away.

“How should I say this in the right way in English… because of an enormous tragedy that happened with Diogo Jota, in the end we had to bring in two number nines,” Slot admitted.

He clarified that the plan was initially to replace Darwin Núñez, but circumstances forced Liverpool to add both Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak to the squad.

Ekitike joined earlier in the window, while Isak arrived on deadline day for a British record £125m as part of the club’s £440m spree.

Despite Osimhen’s reputation as one of Europe’s most lethal strikers, Liverpool’s board never pushed for his signature.

That decision will be tested when Liverpool face Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Osimhen, however, remains doubtful to start after sustaining an injury with Nigeria during international duty.

The Super Eagles star will still be eager to prove a point against the Reds, knowing he was overlooked in favor of other options.
