Bordeaux have officially renounced their professional status after being relegated to the third tier of French football.
The six-time French champions have faced mounting financial struggles over the past few years, culminating in this heartbreaking decision.
Hopes were high when Liverpool owners FSG expressed interest in taking over the club.
However, despite resumed discussions and assurances from various stakeholders, FSG pulled out of the deal.
This led Bordeaux to withdraw their appeal against the decision of the DNCG, France’s financial watchdog for football clubs, which had imposed administrative demotion to the National 1 Championship for the 2024/2025 season.
As a result of these developments all player contracts will be terminated, and the club’s training center will be shut down.
This action ends three years of struggles that began when the club initially went into administration in 2021.
