Ryan Reynolds Joins £50m Sports Venture with Hugh Jackman

Here Is The Easy Money-Making Trick Everyone Is Talking About! Learn More Here!

Wrexham AFC co-owner Ryan Reynolds has launched a new £50 million sporting project alongside Hollywood friend Hugh Jackman, marking a fresh chapter in his high-profile investment career.

Following the extraordinary rise of Wrexham AFC—from a non-league club to the Championship in just four seasons—Reynolds is now setting sail in a new direction: elite sailing.

From Football to SailGP: Reynolds and Jackman Team Up

Reynolds and Jackman have announced joint ownership of an Australian sailing team—the BONDS Flying Roos—which will compete in the prestigious SailGP international sailing league. The event has drawn major celebrity investment, with names like Kylian Mbappé, Anne Hathaway, Deontay Wilder, and Sebastian Vettel already backing teams.

While Reynolds and his business partner Rob McElhenney also hold stakes in sports outfits like Club Necaxa, La Equidad, and Formula 1’s Alpine Racing, this project represents Jackman’s first foray into sports ownership.

“We’re incredibly excited to set sail together,” said Reynolds and Jackman in a joint statement. “Hugh brings his deep love for Australia—and his emotional support human: me.”

The pair are estimated to have invested at least £37 million ($50 million) into the project.

How Ryan Reynolds Built His Fortune

As of 2025, Ryan Reynolds’ net worth is estimated at $400 million (£295 million). He ranked second on Forbes’ highest-paid actors list in 2024, just behind Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, with annual earnings of approximately £79 million.

While Reynolds is widely recognised for roles in Deadpool, Wolverine, and the family hit IF, much of his financial success stems from smart investments:

  • In 2020, he sold Aviation Gin in a deal worth £443 million after acquiring a 20% stake.
  • In 2023, he earned £220 million from the £997 million sale of Mint Mobile to T-Mobile.

Wrexham AFC: The Hollywood Football Fairytale

Since acquiring Wrexham in 2020, Reynolds and McElhenney have transformed the club’s fortunes, reportedly investing more than £20 million into the Welsh side.

Their efforts were documented in the Emmy-winning Welcome to Wrexham series. The show revealed they initially suffered £8.9 million ($12 million) in losses—a reality Reynolds met with trademark wit: “I’m going to throw up.”

Yet, by 2024, Wrexham secured three successive promotions and now sit on the cusp of the Premier League—a feat few thought possible.

Life After Hollywood Divorce: Reynolds and Lively

Despite rumours, Reynolds remains married to actress Blake Lively, not divorced. The couple met on the set of Green Lantern and married in a private South Carolina ceremony. They share four children: James, Inez, Betty, and Olin.

Lively has been a visible supporter of Wrexham AFC. In April, after their Championship promotion, she shared on Instagram:

“Back to back to back. History was made.”

She also praised her husband and McElhenney, writing:

“The love and respect you both pour into this team creates more joy, more magic, and more history.”

Before Blake: Reynolds’ Past Relationships

Before finding lasting love with Lively, Reynolds was involved in several high-profile romances:

  • He was engaged to singer Alanis Morissette in the early 2000s.
  • He married actress Scarlett Johansson in 2008, though they divorced in 2010, citing busy work schedules.

He has also been linked to Sandra Bullock, Melissa Joan Hart, and Charlize Theron over the years.

Reynolds and McElhenney: From Online Acquaintances to Football Owners

Contrary to popular belief, Reynolds and McElhenney weren’t close friends before buying Wrexham. McElhenney was inspired to invest in football after watching Sunderland ‘Til I Die during the pandemic—at the suggestion of writer and Liverpool fan Humphrey Ker.

McElhenney identified Wrexham as a club rich in history but in need of revival. To strengthen his pitch, he reached out to Reynolds—who had once messaged him about a scene from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Reynolds didn’t just agree to invest—he became co-owner.

Their partnership has since become one of the most unlikely and heartwarming stories in modern football.
