Cristiano Ronaldo may still appear at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, despite his current club Al Nassr not qualifying for the tournament.

According to Al Jazeera, FIFA President Gianni Infantino revealed that Ronaldo is involved in discussions about a possible short-term move that would allow him to feature in the competition, which takes place this June in the United States.

“Cristiano Ronaldo might play in the Club World Cup,” Infantino told popular YouTuber IShowSpeed. “There are discussions with some clubs… If any club is watching and is interested in hiring Ronaldo for the Club World Cup, who knows?”

Ronaldo, 40, remains one of football’s most marketable names. His inclusion could boost both visibility and ticket sales for FIFA’s expanded tournament, which debuts with 32 teams across 11 US cities.

While Al Nassr didn’t qualify, FIFA confirmed that teams can still sign players during a special transfer window from June 1–10 and again from June 27–July 3, allowing for unique short-term signings.

Clubs reportedly interested in acquiring Ronaldo for the tournament include Al Hilal, Palmeiras, and Wydad Casablanca, although the Moroccan side currently faces a registration ban.

A move could reunite Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the same competition—something not seen since the 2022 World Cup. Messi’s club, Inter Miami, has already been invited to participate despite missing out on MLS playoff success last season.

FIFA said the goal of the special transfer window is to help clubs and players whose contracts are nearing expiration to reach practical solutions for tournament participation.
