Real Madrid star Rodrygo helped Brazil secure a 1-0 victory over Ecuador in South American World Cup qualifying on Friday.

This victory marked the end of Brazil’s challenging three-match losing streak in the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

The decisive moment came in the 30th minute when the 23-year-old Rodrygo took a shot from outside the box.

The ball deflected off a defender and found its way to the right post, leaving the Ecuadorian goalkeeper with no chance.

This goal was enough to secure the win for the five-time world champions.

Before this win, Brazil had lost consecutive matches against Uruguay, Colombia, and Argentina, which had placed them in sixth place in the standings after six rounds.

The victory elevated Brazil to fourth place with 10 points.

Meanwhile, the Ecuadorians, who had their five-game unbeaten streak broken by this loss, remained in sixth place with eight points which was the last direct qualifying spot for the World Cup.
