Rodrygo Goes may have already played his last game in a Real Madrid shirt following internal tensions and dissatisfaction with his current role at the club.
According to Radio MARCA, the Brazilian forward requested not to be included in the recent El Clasico clash against FC Barcelona, which ended in a 4–3 defeat. The outlet cited anonymous sources indicating a growing rift between Rodrygo and some of his teammates, particularly amid the increased spotlight on Jude Bellingham and the arrival of Kylian Mbappe.
Rodrygo, who joined Real Madrid in 2019 from Santos, was once seen as a crucial figure—especially after his game-changing goals helped secure Champions League victories in 2022 and 2024. However, his position in the squad has weakened considerably this season, and he now finds himself on the sidelines.
Tensions reportedly extend beyond tactical decisions. Internal sources say Rodrygo “feels displaced in the capital because of the media explosion of Jude Bellingham and arrival of Mbappe, which has generated a rift with Vinicius.”
His absence from the lineup in Sunday’s match was made more glaring when youngster Arda Guler started ahead of him, and academy player Victor Munoz was brought on late in the game.
There has also been speculation about a potential move away from Spain. Manchester City is rumored to be among the clubs interested in acquiring the winger, especially following his comments last year that appeared to admire Pep Guardiola’s side before a Champions League clash.
With current manager Carlo Ancelotti set to lead the Brazil national team, incoming coach Xabi Alonso—expected to begin on June 1—will need to address the squad’s chemistry. The potential departure of Rodrygo could be one of his first big decisions.
