Rio Ngumoha, Liverpool’s teenage sensation with Nigerian roots, has been nominated for the club’s Goal of the Month for August 2025 – www.isagoal.com reports.
The 17-year-old forward, who joined from Chelsea’s academy in 2024, is competing with Mohamed Salah and nine other teammates in an 11-man shortlist.
Ngumoha stole the spotlight with his unforgettable stoppage-time winner against Newcastle United that sealed a dramatic 3-2 victory at St. James’ Park.
His strike came deep into the 100th minute, calmly slotting home from Salah’s delivery after Dominik Szoboszlai let the ball roll past with a dummy.
That goal not only gave Liverpool the win but also made Ngumoha the youngest player in the club’s history to score, doing so just one day before turning 17.
“Rio showed unbelievable composure in such a tense moment,” manager Arne Slot said after the match, underlining the youngster’s maturity.
Senior teammates have also applauded his confidence, while fans are already treating him as one of the club’s most exciting young players.
Although he currently represents England at youth level, Ngumoha remains eligible to play for Nigeria, sparking fresh debate about his international future.
Other nominated goals include Salah’s sharp finish against Bournemouth, Szoboszlai’s thunderbolt free-kick versus Arsenal, and Hugo Ekitike’s clinical strikes against Crystal Palace and Newcastle.
