Real Madrid Still Monitoring Arsenal’s Saliba Despite High Price

Real Madrid are circling back to Arsenal's William Saliba after failed attempts this summer and may return with a bigger offer in the 2026 transfer window

Real Madrid are keeping tabs on more than one Premier League defender as they plan for the 2026 transfer window, Isagoal can report. The Spanish side are still showing interest in Arsenal’s William Saliba, despite shifting focus to Ibrahima Konaté in recent weeks.

According to L’Equipe, Saliba was previously their top target before financial constraints led them to consider other options. The French international is under contract with Arsenal until 2027, making any potential move a costly affair.

Madrid had initially hoped to sign Saliba earlier this summer but were priced out. Instead, they turned to Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen, who joined ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup and has since impressed the coaching staff.

Still, Saliba remains on Real Madrid’s radar. “Saliba has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League,” a source familiar with the situation told the outlet. His form under Mikel Arteta continues to earn attention, even beyond England.

Unless Arsenal soften their stance or Real Madrid adjust their budget significantly, Konaté may stay the club’s priority—if a deal doesn’t happen this summer. Madrid’s defense plans remain open, but they are watching Saliba closely.
