Maxi Oyedele is close to completing a transfer from Legia Warsaw to Ligue 1 club Strasbourg, a move that could financially benefit Manchester United, Isagoal can report.
According to Męskieki.pl, Strasbourg plans to trigger Oyedele’s €6 million release clause, with United entitled to 40% of the fee due to a sell-on clause from his 2024 exit.
The 20-year-old midfielder joined Legia last summer after leaving Manchester United, where he spent his formative years in the club’s academy.
Though born in England, Oyedele has Polish and Nigerian roots and has already earned two senior caps for Poland.
However, FIFA eligibility rules mean he can still switch to Nigeria, as he hasn’t reached the cap limit before turning 21.
Strasbourg’s interest in Oyedele intensified following his absence from Legia’s squad against FC Aktobe in their UEFA Europa League qualifier.
Legia manager Edward Iordanescu did not include him, heightening talks of an imminent departure.
Oyedele played in five UEFA Conference League games last season for Legia and delivered one assist in those appearances.
“He’s a young player with a mature understanding of the game,” a club source told Męskieki.pl.
Medical checks are scheduled next week before the deal is finalized.
