Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has admitted he is unsure about his future at English Premier League club Brentford, IsaGoal can report.
In an interview with Soccernet.ng, Onyeka confirmed his next step remains unclear as Brentford continues its search for a new head coach.
Onyeka joined Brentford in 2021 after moving from Danish side FC Midtjylland, and his time at the club has been mixed.
He enjoyed regular minutes under former manager Thomas Frank but also spent significant time on the bench.
Last summer, Brentford allowed Onyeka to leave on loan to German Bundesliga side Augsburg after he fell out of favor.
The Nigerian midfielder found more stability in Germany, making 31 appearances under Augsburg manager Jess Thorup.
Despite his solid season, Augsburg chose not to make his move permanent and confirmed his exit after the Bundesliga season ended.
Onyeka has now returned to Brentford, but his place at the club is still uncertain as no decision has been made regarding his future.
Speaking about his situation, Onyeka told Soccernet.ng: “The aim right now is to go back to Brentford, I don’t know who the new coach is. So I have to speak to him to know what is going on. And then, we can take it from there.”
Brentford are working quickly to find Thomas Frank’s successor after Frank left to join Tottenham two weeks ago.
Reports from English journalist Ben Jacobs suggest Keith Andrews is now the front-runner to take over at Brentford.
Andrews, who joined Brentford as a technical coach last year, has previously worked with MK Dons, the Irish Under-21s, and as an assistant with the Irish senior national team.
Onyeka has never worked with Andrews, which could give him a fresh opportunity to impress during pre-season.
If the Super Eagles star performs well, he could earn a more secure role in Brentford’s midfield next season.
