Alexander Isak’s early goal secured a 1-0 victory for Newcastle over Arsenal at St. James’ Park on Saturday.

This was their first win in five Premier League matches and with this win, Newcastle climbed to eighth place with 15 points, while Arsenal remained third with 18 points.

Isak scored in the 12th minute, netting his third league goal of the season.

After Newcastle worked the ball to Anthony Gordon, he delivered a precise cross that Isak headed into the far corner, eluding defenders Gabriel and William Saliba.

Newcastle effectively stifled Arsenal’s attacking efforts, keeping them off the scoreboard throughout the match.

Arsenal’s best chance came in injury time when Declan Rice headed just wide, expressing frustration at the missed opportunity.

Bukayo Saka also had a chance but sent a header off target from Kai Havertz’s cross, while Newcastle’s Lewis Hall blocked a close-range attempt from Mikel Merino.

Arteta’s side has now won only two of their last six league games, struggling to find their form against a Newcastle team fueled by their recent success in the League Cup.

The result leaves Arsenal’s title challenge looking increasingly precarious.
