Miguel Azeez Seals Morecambe Transfer After Arsenal, Abroad Stints

Arsenal academy graduate Miguel Azeez makes his return to English football as Morecambe secure his signing ahead of the new National League season

Former Arsenal midfielder Miguel Azeez has returned to England after signing for National League side Morecambe – www.isagoal.com reports.

According to a statement released on the club’s official website, the move is still subject to international clearance before he can feature for the Shrimps.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who holds eligibility for Nigeria, Spain, and England, is back in the country after stints in Spain with Atlético Baleares and in Greece with PAS Giannina.

Azeez becomes the second Nigerian to join Morecambe this summer following the arrival of Daniel Ogwuru, a former youth player at Manchester City and Norwich City.

His football journey started at Arsenal’s Hale End academy, where he enrolled at the age of five.

He broke into the senior team under Mikel Arteta, making his professional debut in a Europa League match against Dundalk in December 2020.

During his Arsenal spell, Azeez received ten senior call-ups, including five appearances in Premier League matchday squads.

Loan spells at Portsmouth, Ibiza, and Wigan Athletic followed as he sought regular minutes and experience.

Speaking after his unveiling, Azeez said: “If I could put the shirt on right now I would. We all want to excite the fans and start enjoying football again.”

The creative midfielder has been handed the number 8 shirt as he begins his new chapter at Morecambe.
