Manager Enzo Maresca Addresses Key Issue for Chelsea Ahead of Newcastle United Clash

Here Is The Easy Money-Making Trick Everyone Is Talking About! Learn More Here!

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has acknowledged that his squad lacks a natural leader ahead of their Premier League match against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge.

Following Reece James’ return from injury in a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool, Maresca has called for more assertiveness from the captain.

Appointed by former manager Mauricio Pochettino last August, James has struggled with knee and hamstring injuries in recent seasons, which has limited his impact as a leader.

Maresca emphasized that being captain comes with the responsibility to set a higher standard, stating, “I expect more from him in terms of leadership inside the changing room.”

He noted that while James is progressing, he must show more personality and influence among his teammates, especially since he is a product of the Chelsea academy.

Maresca also highlighted the development of other players like Levi Colwill and Marc Cucurella, who are stepping up as vocal leaders on the pitch.

He believes that leadership qualities develop with experience and age, urging the squad to embrace these roles.

James received a red card in a 4-1 defeat at St James’ Park in their previous encounter, but Newcastle has not won at Stamford Bridge for 12 years.
